The Situation

Young Change Agents is a social entrepreneurship program for 10-18 year olds that helps youth see problems as opportunities. In each program, they invite professionals to act as mentors to the youth as they delve deep into problems they care about in their community and create social enterprise business models and prototypes to pitch to a judging panel. Briefing volunteer mentors to be ready to hit the ground can be time consuming and important details can be skipped over. This can lead to mentors not feeling comfortable or useful in their role. Young Change Agents wanted to ensure that all volunteer mentors are welcomed, informed and ready to go when the programs start. Their ambition is to be the best place to volunteer in Australia.

The Solution

Young Change Agents approached Peopleplan about creating a Mentor Module specifically for its first program to be run with youth with disabilities and with a view to being able to re-use this module later on for additional mentors. Peopleplan suggested a gamified option to ensure the learning would be engaging for the corporate mentor group. Due to budget constraints, the Peopleplan team came up with a way of making it feel fun and interesting without the large price-tag. The solution included a mix of key information, click-and-reveals, videos, scenario-based learning and review questions.
